Dark and Stormy Night (story)

It was a dark and stormy night. Jezzy had managed to squeeze herself into a tight little ball in the wee corner of her bedroom. She often did this when she was frightened because it gave her a better view of her surroundings. She remained there, trembling, not moving an inch, clear through the night - pacing her breath every so often.

Jezzy stayed in this particular corner of her bedroom a lot. But it wasn't because she was afraid of the dark or even the stormy nights. To be honest, these things acted as a sort of comfort for her. They were almost like a reflection of the way that she, all too often, felt on the inside.

As morning approached, and her bedroom grew lighter, she was forced back into reality. Her legs were all sticky and, as she began to crawl out of the ball she had made for herself, she felt the pain that she was all too familiar with. Depression and hopelessness overcame her with the obnoxious red floor acting as a constant reminder. Her eyes remained focused on her bed where she saw a sparkling silver glint shining off one of the reflecting legs.

As she pulled herself closer, a threatening footstep, just outside, sent her scurrying to snatch the object while sliding into her bed. It would be the last time she would ever be hurt again.

Drowning in tears
created through fear
I fall through the cracks
of the holes in my life

A childhood of violence,
betrayal and lies
that my body had to forget
to keep me alive

But as memories unfold
and false realities shatter
my life breaks to pieces
as I am forced to remember

So scared and confused
and unable to breathe
I reach out for anything
that will bring me some peace

Kepping the pills
and razors in sight
I fight for my life
one day at a time

There is a little girl
whom I hold within my thoughts
we take each others hand sometimes
when things get really tough

I see her on the floor
her body laying limp
numb to all the touches
of the boy who lies on top

Her eyes are filled with fear
her mind confused
and she just can't understand
why there's a hand above her mouth

She thinks she must be bad
and dares not say a word
for if the truth be known
she'd surely be to blame

I see this little girl
in my thoughts and in my dreams
and together we begin to heal
for that little girl is me

little girl
alone and scared

Fly away
to a place
where pain
will not follow
where darkness
will turn into light
and voices will cease

Fly away
little girl
and don't look back
escape this life
that eats you alive
follow that light
that meets you in your dreams
grab hold of it
and never let it go
you are free now
you know
leave your sadness behind and fly away
way up high
up in the sky
